DeSoto contracts with Waste Management for weekly residential solid waste and recycling collection. Each household receives a wheeled cart for garbage and a separate cart for single-stream recycling. Collection is once per week for each service on a route schedule assigned to the address; residents can look up their collection day via the city website or Waste Management's address lookup tool. Pickups typically start at 7:00 AM and run until completed. Missed collections should be reported to Waste Management customer service. Holiday schedules shift collections by one day for observed holidays β Waste Management publishes the annual holiday schedule. Acceptable waste includes household garbage, non-hazardous food waste (bagged), and small non-recyclable items in the cart with the lid closed. Yard waste and bulk items follow separate programs (see Bulk Disposal). Hazardous waste β paint, chemicals, batteries, electronics, motor oil β must never be placed in the trash cart and is handled through the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center or similar HHW programs.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Desoto code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
