Citrus County, FL Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Citrus County Code § 82-107(1) requires the collector to pick up and deliver to the solid waste disposal facility the solid waste placed at curbside in garbage receptacles, up to the maximum weight of 50 pounds per receptacle set for manual cans under § 82-76. Collection hours must follow subsection 21-21(10) of the county's noise chapter, and the coordinator may only authorize collection outside those hours in a documented emergency, evidenced afterward by a written memorandum. The section separately bars Sunday collection except during an emergency.

A customer who wants the collector to retrieve waste from behind the house rather than the curb can request rear-door service, but must pay an additional fee set by, and paid directly to, the collector, not the county. Subsection (2) bars trespassing across a neighbor's property to reach a customer's collection point unless both property owners give written permission. Customers also have duties under nearby § 82-109: containers must be accessible without interference from pets or other obstructions so collection and the collector's safety aren't compromised.

Handicapped households get rear-door service at the standard rate rather than the added fee, per § 82-108. These curbside rules bind only the collector certified to serve unincorporated Citrus County; Crystal River and Inverness residents are covered by their own municipal collection ordinances.
