Multnomah County, OR Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Multnomah County solid waste service is coordinated regionally by Metro (the directly-elected regional government covering Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties) through Metro Code Chapter 5.01. Portland City Code Title 17 Chapter 17.102 establishes the franchised residential collection system, with each neighborhood assigned to a single hauler. Standard service is: weekly curbside trash, weekly composting (food scraps + yard debris), and every-other-week recycling for single-family homes. Set-out bins must be placed at the curb by 6 AM on collection day. Portland has provided 'curb-plus' service (hauler retrieves bins from designated location) for residents with accessibility needs. In unincorporated Multnomah County, residents select from Metro-franchised haulers such as Waste Connections or Republic Services. Gresham uses Pride Disposal and Waste Connections under franchise agreements. Holiday schedule shifts collection one day (except July 4 and Christmas which shift a full week when they fall mid-week). Contaminated recycling carts are tagged and skipped under Metro's Recycle or Not contamination reduction program.
