Spartanburg County runs a drop-off recycling program: the county's Recycling Department offers 17 staffed Recycling Convenience Centers for county residents. All staffed centers are open Monday through Saturday from 7 AM until 7 PM, except Station #16, Wellford, which closes at 4:30 PM, and all accept regular household trash in addition to recyclables. Recycling services are provided to Spartanburg County residents only. Clean and empty paper cups are now accepted in the drop-off program. There is no county mandate to recycle; participation is through the convenience-center network. Residents of the City of Spartanburg and other municipalities recycle under their city programs.
Use of the centers is limited to Spartanburg County residents; dumping recyclables or trash outside authorized centers is illegal dumping under S.C. Code 16-11-700.
