New York General Municipal Law Β§120-aa mandates source-separated recycling statewide. Rockland County Local Law requires recycling of paper, cardboard, glass, metal, and plastics #1-7. Contamination rejects loads at RCSWMA.
NY GML Β§120-aa requires every municipality to have a mandatory source-separation recycling program. Rockland County has a countywide Solid Waste Management Plan adopted in compliance with 6 NYCRR Part 360. Residents must separate: paper/cardboard, glass, metal, and plastics #1-7 (actual accepted plastics vary by market conditions). Yard waste collection is typically seasonal March-December. Food-soiled pizza boxes, plastic bags, and styrofoam are NOT accepted curbside. NY Bottle Bill (ECL Β§27-1001 et seq.) provides 5Β’ deposit on eligible beverage containers redeemable separately. Electronic waste banned from curb; textiles and food scrap composting available at some drop-offs.
Contaminated recycling cart: sticker warning, repeat contamination results in cart removal. Commercial violators: NY DEC penalties.
