Bergenfield Chapter 291 requires a written Shade Tree Committee permit before cutting, trimming, climbing, or removing any tree on a public right-of-way or public property.
Under Chapter 291 of the Borough Code, no person may cut, trim, break, climb with spikes, disturb the roots of, spray with injurious chemicals, or remove any living tree or shrub on a public highway, public right-of-way, public park, or other public place without prior written permission from the Bergenfield Shade Tree Committee. Property owners or occupants seeking to plant, prune, remove, or relocate a tree partially or wholly in a public area must submit a signed application on the Committee's form. Requests can be mailed to 198 North Washington Avenue or emailed to the Department of Public Works.
Unauthorized work on public-area trees may result in fines, restoration orders, and replacement requirements under Chapter 291.
