Bergenfield restricts fence height across residential lots and limits hedges, fences, or walls in corner sight triangles to 2.5 feet above curb level for traffic safety.
The Borough of Bergenfield regulates fence heights through its zoning and land development code. Open wire fences may not exceed eight feet within public parks, playgrounds, or schools. At intersections of two or more streets, no hedge, fence, or wall (other than a single post or tree trimmed 12 feet above curb) higher than 2.5 feet above curb level is permitted in the triangular sight area formed by intersecting street lines. Enclosed uses required to be landscaped must provide a fence between three and six feet high.
Violators may face municipal court summonses and required removal or alteration of nonconforming fences.
