Paulding County, GA Accessory Structures: Shed & Carport Rules (2026)

In unincorporated Paulding County a shed is an accessory building under the Zoning Ordinance, Appendix A. The ordinance requires non-agricultural accessory buildings to keep a minimum ten-foot setback from side and rear property lines and bars them from any required front yard setback. Georgia's State Minimum Standard One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code, the adopted IRC, exempts small one-story accessory buildings from a building permit, but that exemption never waives zoning: the setbacks still apply and are confirmed on a plot plan. An accessory building also cannot be occupied by humans or used to run a business, and none may be built before construction on the main house has actually started.
