No local beekeeping ordinance. TX Ag Code Ch. 131 requires free annual apiary registration with TAIS. Movable-frame hives required. HOA deed restrictions may apply.
Beekeeping in Little Elm is governed by Texas Agriculture Code Chapter 131, which requires all beekeepers to register their apiaries annually with the Texas Apiary Inspection Service administered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Registration is free and can be completed online. TAIS inspectors may inspect hives for American foulbrood, small hive beetle, and other reportable diseases. All hives must use movable-frame construction to allow inspection access. Little Elm municipal code does not specifically regulate or prohibit beekeeping in residential zones. Texas Property Code 202.007 prevents HOAs from prohibiting residential solar panels and vegetable gardens but does not extend explicit protection to apiaries, so HOA deed restrictions may limit beekeeping in master-planned communities common throughout Little Elm. The North Texas climate supports year-round colony management with primary nectar flows from March through June.
Failure to register apiary with TAIS: Class C misdemeanor, fine up to $500. Failure to comply with TAIS disease control order: Class B misdemeanor, fine up to $2,000. Diseased colonies may be destroyed by state inspectors.
