Beekeeping is permitted in St. George residential areas subject to the city's urban agriculture provisions. Beekeepers should register their hives with the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. Hives must be placed with adequate setbacks from property lines and public areas. A water source must be provided near hives to prevent bees from seeking water on neighboring properties. Flyway barriers (fences or hedges) at least 6 feet tall may be required when hives are near property lines. Colonies must be maintained to prevent swarming.
