Taylor, MI Animal Ordinances: Bird Protection (2026)

Taylor City Code § 34-81(a) makes it unlawful for anyone in a city park to hunt, molest, harm, frighten, kill, trample, chase, tease, shoot, or throw missiles at any bird (the section covers 'any animal, reptile or bird' together). The same subsection bars removing or possessing the eggs, nest, or young of any bird, and separately prohibits taking, possessing, selling, buying, or gifting any live or dead tree snail. Subsection (b) adds a second bird-specific rule: no person may give, offer, or attempt to give any bird tobacco, alcohol, or other known noxious substances.

The section sits alongside Sec. 34-82, which bars hunting, trapping, or pursuing wildlife anywhere in a Taylor park at any time and forbids carrying firearms, air rifles, spring guns, bows and slings that could endanger wildlife. Enforcement runs through the parks and recreation director under Sec. 34-60(b), with the assistance of the Taylor Police Department, and a footnote to Sec. 34-81 cross-references the state's wildlife conservation and endangered species statutes (MCL 324.40101 et seq. and MCL 324.36501 et seq.) as the parallel state protections behind the local park rule.

Because harming park wildlife is not designated a civil infraction, a violation defaults to the Code's general misdemeanor penalty for all park use regulations, including wildlife protection.
