West Allis, WI Animal Ordinances: Breed Restrictions (2026)

West Allis doesn't regulate dogs by breed. Under WAMC § 7.125, a law enforcement or health officer with reasonable suspicion an animal caused injury, chased, or attempted to bite someone off the owner's property may issue an order declaring it 'dangerous'; more serious incidents, like causing a fracture or being trained for fighting, can trigger a 'prohibited' declaration instead. A declared-dangerous animal's owner must confine it indoors or behind a 6-foot barrier outdoors, muzzle and leash it in public, post warning signage, register it, and carry liability insurance and a microchip, all within 10 days. A prohibited animal may not remain in the city at all.
