West Allis, WI Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

WAMC § 7.21's Keeping of Domestic Animals provision only permits residents to own dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, fish, native insects, non-poisonous amphibians, or indoor pet birds without a special license - chickens, goats, pigs, horses, and other livestock aren't on that list. Keeping any other domestic animal, including typical farm livestock, requires an animal fancier license from the health commissioner, issued only after a premises inspection and a finding that the animal won't endanger the applicant or the public. Dog and cat ownership is also capped at 2 dogs and 4 cats per dwelling without a fancier license.
