Redmond allows up to 3 chickens on residential lots under 20,000 sq ft, scaling with lot size per RMC 21.08. Roosters are prohibited in most residential zones. Coops must meet setback rules.
Under RMC Title 21 (Zoning Code), specifically RMC 21.08, residential properties in Redmond may keep domestic fowl subject to lot-size caps. Parcels under 20,000 square feet may have up to three hens; lots 20,000 to 35,000 square feet may have up to six; and larger residential lots in R-1 and rural residential zones may have more consistent with general livestock rules. Roosters and other crowing birds are prohibited in R-4 through R-12 residential zones because of noise issues. Coops and runs must be set back at least 10 feet from any side or rear property line and at least 25 feet from any dwelling on an adjacent lot. Feed must be stored in rodent-proof containers. Slaughtering on-site is prohibited in residential zones. Chickens must be contained at all times and may not roam off the owner's property. HOA covenants throughout the Education Hill, Grass Lawn, and Bear Creek neighborhoods often impose stricter limits than city code; check CC&Rs before buying chickens.
Zoning violation cited as civil infraction. Fines typically $100 for first offense, $250 for continued violations. Non-compliant coops may be ordered removed.
