Omaha requires dogs and mini pigs to be on a leash or confined within a fenced yard at all times. No statewide leash law exists, but Omaha's Β§6 mandates leashing.
Under Omaha Chapter 6 (Animals), dogs and mini pigs must be on a leash or confined in a yard when outside at all times. There is currently no leash law for cats in Omaha. Dogs, cats, and mini pigs that are not microchipped must wear collars and tags. All dogs must be licensed through the Nebraska Humane Society. It is illegal to allow a dog to roam freely off the owner's property without a leash. The Nebraska Humane Society (402-444-7800) handles animal control for the City of Omaha.
Unleashed dogs off the owner's property are subject to citation and may be impounded. Licensing violations also carry fines.
