Quiet hours in Omaha, NE β also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time β define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Omaha prohibits loud or unnecessary noise. Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 7 AM. Maximum permitted sound levels are 70 dB during daytime and 55 dB at night.
Omaha's Chapter 17 (Noise Control) establishes a comprehensive noise control framework. It is unlawful to make, continue, or cause unnecessary noise that disturbs the peace and quiet of any neighborhood. Maximum permitted sound levels under Β§55-804 are 70 decibels from 7 AM to 10 PM and 55 decibels from 10 PM to 7 AM. Amplified sound (radios, speakers, etc.) must not be audible more than 100 feet from the source or be unreasonably disturbing to others (Β§17-3). On residential property, amplified sound must not be audible in any adjoining unit.
Violations of the noise ordinance are subject to municipal fines. Repeat violations or failure to abate can lead to escalating penalties under Omaha's general penalty provisions.
