Paramus requires every dog in public to be on a leash no longer than six feet and prohibits dogs entirely from Borough-owned parks, playgrounds, and play areas.
Chapter 169 of the Paramus Code forbids dogs from running at large on any public street, sidewalk, or public place. Owners must use a leash whose total length, including the handgrip, does not exceed six feet, held by a person able to control the dog. Dogs are barred from all Paramus parks, playgrounds, and play areas. Owners must also clean up waste on public or private property and prevent the dog from causing injury or damage. Violations carry fines of not less than $100 per the Chapter 169 penalty schedule.
Walking a dog off-leash, using a leash longer than six feet, bringing a dog into a Borough park or playground, or failing to clean up after the dog all trigger enforcement.
