Under Truckee's animal services code (Title 8), it is unlawful to allow any dog to stray, run, or otherwise be at large in any public street, sidewalk, park, school ground, or other public place without consent of the property owner.
Truckee's animal control regulations (Title 8 - Animal Services) make it unlawful for any dog owner or custodian to allow the dog to be at large in any public place, on any private property without owner consent, or in any food establishment (except guide dogs and dogs in training). Dogs that run at large on properties where livestock or domestic fowl are kept are subject to additional restrictions. Enforcement is shared by the Truckee Police Department and the Nevada County Animal Services. License is required for all dogs over 4 months old per California Food & Agricultural Code Section 30951.
Running at large is typically an administrative citation with a fine schedule starting around $50-$100 for first offense and escalating for repeat violations. Dogs running at large among livestock may be impounded.
