Longmont restricts ownership of Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs to animals that have been inspected and issued a Colorado Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, and prohibits keeping animals not customarily domesticated under LMC § 7.04.130. Native Colorado wildlife is regulated by Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CRS Title 33).
Longmont Municipal Code limits which animals may be kept in city limits. Per the City of Longmont Animals page: 'It is unlawful to bring, own, keep, harbor or possess any Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs in the city unless the pig has been inspected and issued a Colorado Certificate of Veterinary Inspection by a veterinarian, who is licensed and accredited by the State of Colorado.' Each pet pig must be licensed within 30 days of acquisition; pig licensing is processed directly by Animal Control (not through DocuPet) and requires proof of spay/neuter and a veterinarian health/breed verification. LMC § 7.04.130 (Prohibited Keeping of Animals) also prohibits keeping any animal in a manner that creates a public nuisance, and roosters specifically are barred. Native Colorado wildlife (deer, foxes, raccoons, skunks, bears, mountain lions, raptors, etc.) cannot be kept as pets under Colorado Parks & Wildlife regulations (CRS Title 33 and 2 CCR 406-8). Colorado's Wildlife Aren't Pets program emphasizes that monkeys and other primates, exotic pigs, certain frogs, exotic bovids (e.g., wildebeest), and ruminants such as oryx are illegal to possess in Colorado. Reptiles and birds not on the prohibited list are generally allowed under federal/state rules.
Possession of an unpermitted exotic / wildlife species is enforceable by both Longmont Animal Control (LMC § 7.04.130) and Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Pot-bellied pig kept without the required Colorado Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or city license is a Longmont municipal violation: up to $999 fine and/or 180 days jail.
