Traditional livestock like cattle, horses, and pigs are restricted to agricultural or large-lot zones that are rare in Atlanta. Most residential zones allow only poultry, rabbits, and dwarf goats.
Atlanta Code Ch. 158 ties livestock to zoning. R-LC (Low-density conservation) and R-1 districts with large lots may allow limited traditional livestock with setbacks of 50 feet or more from property lines; most higher-density residential zones do not permit cows, horses, or pigs. Dwarf goats (up to 2) and rabbits are allowed with similar setbacks. Swine are largely prohibited citywide due to nuisance potential. Equestrian facilities exist on the far north and south fringes of the city. Livestock in prohibited zones is a zoning violation and typically resolved through removal of the animals.
Zoning violations require removal. Fines escalate if animals are not relocated within the compliance window.
