Full Breakdown
Hampton's business license tax code names 'animal hospitals, grooming services, kennels or stables' under § 18.1-43 as a repair, personal, and other business service. Once gross receipts exceed the $100,000 flat-fee threshold set in § 18.1-31, groomers and similar animal-care businesses pay a license tax of $0.36 per $100 of gross receipts: the catch-all rate applying to any service not separately classified as financial, real estate, or professional under § 18.1-37. Veterinarians, by contrast, are taxed as a professional service at the higher $0.58 per $100 rate under § 18.1-37(d).
Violations & Fines
Operating a grooming business, kennel, or animal hospital without the required city business license, or under the wrong tax classification, exposes the business to assessment and penalty under Chapter 18.1's licensing provisions.
