Coral Springs, FL Animal Ordinances: Pet Limits (2026)

City Code § 4-2(b) sets the city's residential pet limit: in every residential zoning district except RS-1, a household may keep no more than three dogs and three cats. The cap excludes offspring younger than four months, so a litter of puppies or kittens doesn't put an owner over the limit right away. The section also restricts breeding: any animal kept for breeding purposes in these residential districts must be a household pet that resides primarily inside the residence rather than being kept outdoors or in a separate structure.

RS-1 is the one exception. Because § 4-2(c) allows RS-1 properties to keep the livestock and larger-lot animals prohibited everywhere else in the city, the three-dog, three-cat cap in § 4-2(b) applies only outside that district, leaving RS-1 owners without the same numeric ceiling on dogs and cats.

Violations of § 4-2, including exceeding the three-and-three limit, are enforced as civil infractions. A first violation carries a minimum civil penalty of fifty dollars under § 1-8.1(d)(2) of the Municipal Code. Under the escalating fine schedule in § 1-8.1(e)(2), a second violation rises to one hundred dollars, a third to two hundred dollars, and a fourth or later violation can reach the maximum penalty of five hundred dollars. Code compliance officers, defined under § 1-8.0 to include code inspectors and law enforcement officers designated by the city manager, can issue the citation for an over-limit household.
