Evansville, IN Animal Ordinances: Pet Limits (2026)

EMC 6.05.060(D) is the City's tool against overcrowded, hoarding-style animal keeping: every dog or cat's primary enclosure must provide at least 40 square feet of floor space for an animal weighing 10 pounds or less, growing by 10 square feet for each additional 10 pounds, and no primary enclosure may house more than six adult cats over eight weeks old. The same section bans using a tether as an animal's primary enclosure and requires excreta be removed often enough to prevent odor and disease. Animal Care and Control enforces these standards through inspection.
