Larimer County, CO Animal Ordinances: Wildlife Feeding (2026)

Larimer County Code Sec. 6-83 defines "to feed" broadly as any provision of edible or drinkable material, including bones, salt licks, and water. Feeding wild ducks or geese is prohibited, but a person cannot be prosecuted unless, within the prior year, they received a written warning that feeding waterfowl at that location was found to be a public health and safety concern. Feeding only squirrels or other birds is a defense. Larimer County also enforces a Wildlife Protection Ordinance requiring bear-resistant refuse containers and securing of attractants in designated wildlife-protection areas to reduce human-bear conflict. Colorado Parks and Wildlife separately prohibits intentional feeding of big-game wildlife such as deer and elk.
