Boca Raton's Noise Ordinances: The Rules That Matter

Leaf Blower Rules

Boca Raton bars running lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers and power-driven hedge shears between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. citywide. The code's lawn-equipment hours section does not name gas leaf blowers separately, so blower noise loud enough to disturb neighbors falls under the general excessive-noise rule instead.

Running a mower, edger, trimmer or hedge shear during the 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. window is a direct Section 10-67 violation once the Section 10-71 warning step is exhausted. A blower or other equipment not named in Section 10-67 can still be cited under the general excessive-noise standard (Section 10-54) or the residential dBA limits (Section 10-72) if it disturbs neighbors. Noise article violations carry the Section 1-16 general penalty: up to a $500 fine, up to 60 days in jail, or both, with each day a separate offense.

Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound

Boca Raton bans playing a radio, stereo, or musical instrument loud enough to disturb neighborhood peace anywhere in the city, requires recreation department authorization for amplifying devices or entertainment in city parks, and forces CG-zoned restaurants with amplified music within 300 feet of a home into conditional-use review. City Code Secs. 10-76 and 10-82 both declare a violation a public nuisance, separate from the numeric noise ceilings the city sets for new and in-use motor vehicles.

Aircraft Noise

Boca Raton divides land near Boca Raton Airport into three noise zones based on aircraft sound contours: zone A (75 Ldn and above), zone B (70-75 Ldn) and zone C (65-70 Ldn). No residential development is allowed in zone A, and buildings in zones B and C must meet sound level reduction standards before a permit issues.
