Collection Schedule

Holiday Pickup Schedule

Columbus Refuse Collection runs no trash routes on eleven City-observed holidays, and the 2026 calendar puts Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 12, 2026, between Labor Day and Veterans Day. Color-zone trash rotates forward one day after each holiday, residents without a color use a two-day window, and recycling and yard waste follow a separate 2026 calendar that marks only six of those holidays, so they run on time the week of October 12.

Good Friday (Apr 3, 2026): Collection days are not affected.

The holiday schedule carries no penalty of its own. Section 1303.03 lets the director enforce Title 13 through forfeitures, injunctive actions, civil citations, criminal complaints and other remedies available by law. The practical risk in a holiday week is a missed or early set-out: FAQ 10 bars containers before 6 p.m. the day before collection and requires them back on the property by 2 p.m. the day after, and FAQ 13 lists the reasons a container is left unserviced, including a container placed out after 6 a.m. on the collection day, set in the wrong location, holding prohibited materials, or blocked by a parked car. Under § 1303.021(H)(4), yard waste cannot go out before 6:00 p.m. the day before collection, and the civil penalty is $250.

Putting yard waste out early or leaving containers at the curb past 2:00 p.m. the next day under § 1303.021(H)(4) costs $250, as does missing the (H)(1) duty. The (H)(2) duty costs $1,000. Illegal dumping under § 1305.03(A) and burning under § 1305.02 each carry $1,000. Unpaid fines add $20.00 at twenty (20) days and $60.00 in total at forty (40) days.

Bin Placement Rules

Columbus requires collection containers to sit at least four feet from parked vehicles at the curb, then be pulled back within ten feet of the house or garage by 2 p.m. the day after pickup.
