Enumeration. The latest edition of the following codes, as adopted and amended by the state department of community affairs, shall be enforced by the county. (1) International Building Code, including Chapter 1; (2) International Mechanical Code, including Chapter 1; (3) International Fuel Gas Code, including Chapter 1; (4) International Plumbing Code, including Chapter 1; (5) National Electrical code; (6) International Fire Code, including Chapter 1; (7) International Residential Code, including Chapter 1; and (8) Georgia State Energy Code for Buildings. ... Nothing in this chapter shall prevent a homeowner from installing electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems or maintaining his home within his own property boundaries, provided such work is done by such homeowner and is used exclusively by him or his family. Such privilege does not convey the right to violate any of the provisions of this chapter, nor is it construed as exempting any such property owner from obtaining a permit, paying required fees and requesting inspections.
