Hanford, CA Building Safety: Childcare Center Rules (2026)

Section 17.60.060 of the zoning code sets the site design standard that applies on top of the permitted-use table: any day care center must provide a loading and unloading area sized for at least two vehicles, and that area has to sit near the main entrance rather than across a street from it. The rule exists to keep parent drop-off and pick-up traffic from crossing traffic lanes near young children. It applies citywide, in every zone where a day care use is allowed, and is enforced through the Community Development Department's site plan review process before a center can open.
