Hanford, CA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Hanford Municipal Code § 10.16.090, "All-night parking," reads in full: no person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle on any street in any business district for a period of time longer than 30 minutes between the hours of two a.m. and five a.m. of any day. The rule sits in Chapter 10.16, Stopping, Standing and Parking, and by its own text is limited to streets within the business district; it does not, on its face, impose a nightly curfew on residential streets. The chapter's general application clause, § 10.16.010, exempts stopping that is "necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer, an authorized person, or official traffic control device" from every stopping, standing and parking prohibition in the chapter, including § 10.16.090.

Residential and other non-business-district streets are instead governed by the chapter's 72-hour storage rule at § 10.16.030: no owner or person in possession of a vehicle may park it "upon any street or alley for more than a consecutive period of 72 hours," and once that period runs, "any member of the police department authorized by the police chief may remove such vehicle from the street." Section 10.16.080 separately lets the city engineer post temporary emergency no-parking signs during public assemblages or other emergencies, overriding the ordinary parking rules while the signs are posted.

Definitions for terms Chapter 10.16 does not define, including "business district," come from the state Vehicle Code under § 10.04.010(A). Enforcement of § 10.16.090 itself runs through the citywide general penalty, § 1.20.010: any code violation is an infraction punished under Government Code § 36900(b), with each day of a continuing violation treated as a separate offense.
