Full Breakdown

Under PTMC 17.52.030, all child care facilities -- family home child care, in-home preschools, and stand-alone day care centers -- must get a city business license and the required state license, comply with building code exiting requirements and fire sprinkler rules, meet zoning setback and lot coverage standards, and stay 150 feet from any adult entertainment facility. PTMC 17.52.060 also requires every provider to register with the planning and community development department and show compliance with the building and fire code (Chapter 16.04 PTMC) before starting operations. Stand-alone day care centers additionally can't sit within 300 feet of another day care center in a residential district (PTMC 17.52.050).

Violations & Fines

Operating without the city business license, state license, or required registration form is a code violation subject to enforcement under PTMC Chapter 1.20; unresolved building or fire code deficiencies can block licensing or registration.
