City Code § 9-135 adopts the 2020 National Electrical Code, as modified by the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission, as the governing standard citywide. Under § 9-153, no electrical system can be installed, altered, repaired, replaced or remodeled without a separate permit for each structure, and only a contractor licensed by both the State of Oklahoma and the city can pull one (§ 9-136). Permits lapse if work has not started within 180 days (§ 9-150). This applies only inside Midwest City's corporate limits, not Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Del City or Choctaw, each of which enforces its own electrical code.
