Full Breakdown
Under City Code § 9-87, when an original rough-in installation or a permitted alteration is finished, the permit-holding contractor must notify the inspector that the work is ready. The inspector then inspects at the first available time; if the work complies with the applicable code article, the inspector posts an inspection notice at or near the work showing the date, approval, and the inspector's signature. The city charges an inspection fee, and if the inspector must return for another trip because the first inspection failed, every subsequent reinspection is billed a separate reinspection fee under the fee table in § 9-47.
Violations & Fines
Working without a passed inspection or otherwise violating this chapter is punishable, absent a specific penalty, by a fine up to $200 plus costs and/or up to 30 days in jail, with each day a separate offense (§ 1-8).
