Shenandoah, TX Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

, 2023 Edition, among the codes adopted as regulations governing construction, including electrical construction, throughout the city. Section 14-34, titled "Building code additions," layers city-specific wiring rules on top of that adopted national code. All wiring installed in the city must be at least a no. 12/2 copper conductor insulated with a ground, every outlet and switch must be grounded, and every major appliance must be placed on its own separate circuit. The section states that all other specifications not covered by these local additions must follow the National Electrical Code itself, unless the article provides otherwise.

Critically, Section 14-34(2)(e) restricts who may legally perform electrical work under this section: work cannot be done except by, or under the direction of, a master electrician or an electrical sign manufacturer.
