Clark County, NV Building Safety: Elevator Maintenance (2026)

NRS Chapter 455C and NAC 455C authorize the Nevada Division of Industrial Relations (DIR) Mechanical Compliance Section to regulate all elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and related conveyances in Clark County. Installation, alteration, and repair require DIR permits. Annual safety inspections are mandatory, and the state inspector issues a Certificate of Operation that must be posted in the elevator cab. Owners must maintain equipment to ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators standards. Because the Las Vegas Strip sits within unincorporated Paradise and hosts some of the tallest hotel-casinos in the nation (Stratosphere, Resorts World, Fontainebleau), Clark County contains thousands of regulated conveyances including high-speed passenger elevators, service elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators in casino properties and convention centers. Multi-family residential towers in Summerlin South and Spring Valley also fall under DIR jurisdiction. Private residential elevators in single-family homes are subject to permit and inspection but not Certificate of Operation posting. Emergency phone connection and firefighter service (Phase I and Phase II) are required. Violations during inspection can result in immediate removal from service.
