Full Breakdown
The LCG Property Maintenance Code requires elevators, dumbwaiters and escalators to be maintained to ASME A17.1, with the current inspection certificate posted inside the elevator, kept on file with the building operator, or posted in a conspicuous public spot the building official approves. Inspections and tests must happen at least as often as ASME A17.1 Appendix N requires. In buildings with passenger elevators, at least one must stay running whenever the building is occupied; single-elevator buildings may go down temporarily for testing or servicing.
Violations & Fines
Building official can order corrections; noncompliant elevators, escalators or dumbwaiters are a Property Maintenance Code violation subject to the Code's enforcement and administrative hearing process under Chapter 26, Article XVI.
