Bowling Green, KY Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

The Building and Inspection Division of the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services runs Bowling Green's electrical inspection program under Chapter 10 of the Code of Ordinances. Sec. 10-3.04 requires that all electrical work and installation of any apparatus, material or device used for light, heat or power be inspected by the Electrical Inspector; the person doing the work must notify the inspector when installation, repair or alteration is complete so the inspection can be made. If the Electrical Inspector does not approve the work because it fails this Chapter or the National Electrical Code, the inspector must give notice within two business days of notification (or a further reasonable time on request), and any unapproved work or equipment must be altered or removed until it fully complies.

Sec. 10-1.07.a separately requires rough-in and final inspection on any electrical work that may be concealed by concrete or other building finish, and under Sec. 10-2.03 the Electrical Inspector places a rough-in sticker in the panel once wiring methods, box fill, conduit sizing and grounding pass, then a Final Inspection Sticker once the completed work conforms to the Code; a Certificate of Compliance Form is then issued to the utility and, on request, to the Master Electrician. Sec. 10-3.03 makes it unlawful to connect any wiring to service before the Electrical Inspector gives approval, and Sec.

10-3.06 lets the inspector disconnect service and post a notice on conductors found dangerous, unsafe or installed without a permit; removing that notice or reconnecting before re-approval is also unlawful.
