Bowling Green, KY Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Sec. 6-5, titled State Plumbing Code Adopted, adopts the Kentucky State Plumbing Law, Regulations and Code, Current Edition, citing KRS 132.010(9) and (10), KRS Chapter 318, KRS 318.130 and 815 KAR Chapter 20, including 815 KAR 20:010. Because plumbing standards come from this state instrument rather than a city-drafted plumbing code, Bowling Green has not written its own separate fee schedule or licensing text for plumbing in Chapter 6; instead, Sec. 6-1.01.b directs the Chief Building Inspector and Building Inspectors to "[c]oordinate the performance of these duties with Plumbing Inspector, Fire Inspector and Health Officials of the City, County and State" when enforcing building requirements.

Plans submitted for any building permit, including plumbing work covered by the adopted state code, go to the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services, Building and Inspection Division for review under Sec. 6-3.01, and Sec. 6-4.01 requires the applicable fees to accompany all plans and specifications before construction approval is issued. Because the substantive plumbing standards and their enforcement authority come from Kentucky statute and administrative regulation rather than city ordinance, Bowling Green's own code does not print a separate plumbing violation penalty; the city's role is adoption, permit coordination and plan review, with compliance measured against the state Plumbing Law and 815 KAR Chapter 20 rather than a locally drafted plumbing chapter.
