35 puts inspections in the hands of a construction code official employed by or under contract with the City of Erie, except that Fire Code inspections and permits are handled only by a qualified Fire Inspector under Article 1501. Before issuing a permit, the Building Code Official or Fire Inspector may examine the building, structure, facility or site tied to the application. Once work begins, the permit holder or an authorized agent must notify the inspector when the job is ready to be checked and keep the work accessible and exposed for that inspection; inspections generally happen during normal hours unless the permit holder agrees to another time.

The code official must tell the permit holder whether the work complies with the Uniform Construction Code or fails to. 35(e) requires a final inspection report confirming compliance across seven categories tied to certification standards in 34 Pa. 7: general building, electrical, plumbing, accessibility, fire protection (Fire Inspectors only), mechanical, and energy conservation. 44(d), breaks the process into foundation inspection, plumbing/mechanical/electrical system inspection, frame and masonry inspection, and wallboard inspection. 36(b) requires within five business days of that report.
