Louisville, KY Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Louisville Metro enforces the Kentucky Building and Residential Codes through the Department of Codes and Regulations. Under § 150.004(C), the Code Official either performs the required inspections in person or accepts written, certified reports from an approved inspection agency or individual: there's no option to skip inspection with an uncertified self-report. Inspectors must carry identification while on site (§ 150.004(F)), and the Code Official can enter a structure at reasonable times to inspect, subject to normal search-and-seizure limits (§ 150.004(D)). Trade-specific inspections layer on top: HVAC work requires a rough-in inspection and a final inspection before the system can be covered or concealed (§ 150.025).
