Albemarle County, VA Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

County Code § 5-203 sets the fee for plumbing permits by reference to Chapter 1, Article 5, the same fee schedule that governs building, electrical, and mechanical permits. Section 1-501 prices Plumbing-Additions/Alteration/Repairs at $10 per fixture with a $90 minimum, and new commercial plumbing (including additions) at the same $10-per-fixture rate with a $90 minimum. Plumbing-Sewer Laterals and Plumbing-Water Lines, when not included as part of a larger permit, are each a flat $30. 80 per fixture with a $15 minimum. 02-per-square-foot plan review fee subject to a $75 minimum.

As with all Article 5 fees, § 1-500 requires payment in full at application submission, bars considering an application complete until fees are paid, and allows a 65 percent refund if the application is withdrawn within ten days and before notices or legal advertisement are sent. Albemarle County and the Albemarle County School Board are exempt from these fees. Plumbing permits are issued and inspected by the Building Inspection Office established under § 5-102 in the Department of Community Development.
