Full Breakdown
Sec. 26-432 adopts the latest International Plumbing Code, and Sec. 26-431 adopts the International Fuel/Gas Code, both administered by Community Development and Planning. Before doing plumbing or gasfitting work, a business must first register annually with the department (Sec. 26-35); Sec. 26-35(a) bars issuing any permit to an unregistered contractor. Sec. 26-33 makes chapter 26 apply in both the City of Lafayette and unincorporated Lafayette Parish, not the unincorporated area alone. Permit fees follow the council's adopted fee schedule (Sec. 26-37).
Violations & Fines
Doing plumbing work without a valid annual contractor registration blocks permit issuance outright under Sec. 26-35(a). Starting work before a permit is applied for or issued doubles the required fee under Sec. 26-37, and unregistered contractors risk registration suspension or revocation.
