Full Breakdown
Setbacks in Galloway Township come from the Use, Area, Yard and Bulk Regulations tables in the Land Management Ordinance (Chapter 233), and vary by zoning district. Certain districts require, for example, a 40-foot front yard, 20-foot side yard, and 20-foot rear yard. For accessory structures in the R and R-1 residential districts, the setback is five feet from rear and side property lines on interior lots (12 feet where a line coincides with a street on corner lots). Small storage sheds under 100 square feet may sit three feet from an interior property line. No accessory structure may be located in the front yard. Check your exact district before building.
Violations & Fines
Building inside a required setback is a zoning violation; the township can deny a permit, require relocation, or pursue municipal-court penalties. A variance from the Zoning Board is needed to encroach.
