In unincorporated Douglas County's Suburban Residential district, the maximum height is 35 feet for a principal building and 20 feet for an accessory building. Chimneys, antennas, and similar rooftop appurtenances are exempt.
The Zoning Resolution caps principal residential buildings at 35 feet and detached accessory buildings at 20 feet in the Suburban Residential district. The Estate Residential district also uses a 35-foot maximum. The height limit does not apply to belfries, cupolas, chimneys, skylights, ventilators, water tanks, parapet walls, cornices, antennas, utility poles, and similar mechanical appurtenances carried above the roof. Special sub-rules govern church spires (up to 1.62 times church height) and antennas (no greater than the distance to the nearest lot line). Height is defined and measured per the Resolution's definitions section.
Exceeding the height limit is a zoning violation that can prevent permit approval and require the structure to be lowered or altered.
