3.Height exceptions. The following are exceptions to the height limits in table 24-5-1:(a)Building elements integral to the design and construction of the building, such as parapet walls, false mansards, or other design elements essential to a quality appearance of the building may extend up to six feet above the roof deck of a flat roof.(b)Architectural features such as chimneys, ornamental towers or spires, and similar accessory features that are cumulatively less than 20 percent of the building footprint may extend up to 50 percent above the actual building height.(c)Functional and mechanical equipment such as elevator bulkheads, cooling towers, smoke stacks, roof vents or other equipment may be built up to their necessary height in accordance with building codes, provided they are screened according to the standards of this code.c.Accessory buildings — Residential. Accessory buildings shall be permitted in association with, and on the same lot as, a principal building or use, subject to the standards in table 24-5-2, and to the following additional limitations.
