Greeley, CO Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Two sections of the Greeley Municipal Code combine to make this rule, and a third supplies the tow authority.

Sec. 16-2 defines the trigger. A snow emergency is the period of time established by the director of public works or the director's designee when it is necessary to restrict parking on snow emergency routes to allow for the plowing and/or removal of snow. Snowfall alone does not start the ban. It runs for the period the director sets, and its stated purpose is clearing the routes.

Sec. 16-671(a)(12) supplies the prohibition. No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle or trailer along any officially designated and posted snow removal route during a snow emergency. Three details matter. The rule covers stopping and standing as well as parking, so a driver waiting at the curb is included. It names trailers alongside vehicles, so a trailer left on the route is covered. And the route must be both officially designated and posted, which puts a street without snow route signs outside item (12).

Sec. 16-685(c) covers removal. During or after a snow storm, the public works director may have any vehicle illegally parked on a properly signed and posted snow removal or sweeping route towed to the nearest legal spot or impounded. That gives Greeley two options: move the vehicle nearby, or take it to impound. The words "or after" mean a vehicle is not safe from towing just because the snow has stopped falling.

Read together, the sections limit the ban in place and in time. It applies only on posted routes, and only while a declared snow emergency is in effect. It is not a rule for every street in the city.
