020(c)(5)(B) of the Lubbock UDC lists eight categories of business that are prohibited as home occupations, and vehicle repair work shows up twice in that list. Item iv bars major electrical appliance repair and motorized vehicle repair outright, and item vii separately bars welding, vehicle body repair, and the rebuilding or dismantling of vehicles, closing off both mechanical and bodywork variants of the trade. The same subsection also excludes animal hospitals, general retail sales, mortuaries, sexually-oriented businesses, and stables or kennels from home-occupation status, and a catch-all provision lets the Director of Planning add any other activity found to be functionally similar to one of the listed prohibited uses, which forecloses attempts to rebrand a repair shop as something else to slip past the list.

Because auto repair is excluded from home-occupation status entirely, none of the home-occupation allowances, such as the 25 percent/400-square-foot floor-area limit or the resident-employee rule that apply to permitted uses like office and professional services, help a residential mechanic; the use is barred regardless of scale. A resident who wants to legally run a repair operation has to locate it on property zoned for automotive or commercial use and go through the applicable site development and building permit process for that district, since a residential lot cannot be converted to that use through the home-occupation path.
