Putnam County Code Sec. 45-110(7) governs home occupations, businesses run inside a residence that stay clearly accessory and incidental to residential use. Subsection (7)d lists uses that are prohibited as home occupations in all circumstances, and the first entry is mechanical, paint and body repair, and detailing services on any motor vehicle or trailer, including automobiles, trucks, boats, motor homes, buses, tractors, heavy equipment, mobile homes and travel trailers. That flat ban applies even though other home occupations meeting Sec. 45-110(7)b's criteria, such as employee limits, no outside heavy vehicle storage on residential lots, and no detectable noise, dust or fumes, are otherwise allowed by right.
The same subsection separately bars tow truck and trucking services, veterinary facilities and several other uses as home occupations. Legitimate commercial vehicular repair and service is instead pushed into commercial and industrial districts under Sec. 45-203, which requires at least 100 feet of street frontage, controlled driveway spacing, shielded lighting away from residential districts, and a 25-foot setback from any residentially zoned property for buildings, pumps or storage tanks.

Running an auto repair, body shop or vehicle detailing business as a home occupation is a prohibited use regardless of permit and is enforced through code enforcement before the county's Special Magistrate under chapter 2 of the code. A Sec. 1-6 general penalty applies to Code violations: a fine up to $500.00, up to 60 days in jail, or both, with continuing violations charged per day.
