Leominster, MA Cannabis Regulations: Buffer Zones (2026)

9 of the zoning ordinance sets the citywide buffer for marijuana establishments and registered marijuana dispensaries (RMDs). The five hundred foot buffer runs from residential zoning districts, churches or other religious uses, schools, child care facilities, family child care homes, parks, playgrounds, public libraries, and any other marijuana facility. The code measures distance as the shortest line between buildings, or, where the neighboring use is a church, child care facility, school, park, playground or other recreational area, as the shortest distance from the marijuana facility's building to that use's lot line.

A separate rule in the same subsection forbids locating a facility within, on the same lot as, or on a lot immediately adjacent to a licensed pharmacy, with no distance qualifier attached to that ban. 1, the industrial zoning district is the only district where a marijuana facility can locate, and only by special permit from the city council. c. 138, § 15, rounded up to the next whole number if the math produces a fraction. c. 5 incentive factor, to cover the cost of tearing the facility down if the operator will not. closing window unless the site is cultivation-only, and none may share a building with a medical practitioner's office or with residential or transient housing.
