"Medical marijuana dispensary," "marijuana dispensary," "marijuana cultivation," "marijuana processing," and "delivery" of marijuana or medical cannabis products (land uses), as these terms are defined in Section 7.80.010, are land uses prohibited in the city of South Gate. "Medical services" (land use) may also include incidental medical laboratories. Counseling services by other than medical doctors or psychiatrists are included under "Office" – "Professional/administrative."
1. "Medical/dental/holistic" means a facility other than a hospital where medical, dental, holistic, mental health, surgical, and/or other personal health care services are provided on an outpatient basis, and that accommodates no more than four licensed primary practitioners (for example, chiropractors, medical doctors, psychiatrists, other than nursing staff) within an individual office suite.
2. "Clinic" means medical offices of five or more licensed practitioners and/or medical specialties.
3. "Extended care" means a private medical services facility providing for regular care on an extended basis as required beyond immediate in-office visits; generates limited to no walk-in service.

Full Breakdown
South Gate's zoning code defines "marijuana dispensary," "marijuana cultivation," "marijuana processing," and marijuana "delivery" as land uses and then flatly bars all of them: § 11.60.160 states these uses, as defined in § 7.80.010, are prohibited in the city. Unlike jurisdictions that confine cannabis businesses to an overlay or industrial zone, South Gate has opted out entirely, there is no zoning district, conditional use permit, or licensing path in this code that authorizes a storefront dispensary, cultivation site, processing facility, or delivery-only operation anywhere within city limits.
Violations & Fines
Operating a prohibited marijuana land use is enforced as a code violation citywide; general code violations are misdemeanors under § 1.56.040, punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, six months in jail, or both, with each day a separate offense.
