Appleton's Historic Preservation Commission can recommend a local historic structure, site or district designation only if the property meets at least one of five statutory criteria, from association with a significant historic event or person to notable architecture or archaeological potential, defined in Sec. 23-651(i) of the Municipal Code. The Common Council makes the final call after public notice and hearing.
